Additional Information
The objective of this flight was to measure bi-directional radiative effects of a thin aerosol layer and the in-situ properties of smoke in low optical thickness conditions. The ER-2 aircraft flew a modified "star pattern" with center point at 14.75S and 47.50W (near Sao Jose du Alianca, Brazil). Four flight legs were flown to obtain measurements at four different azimuth angles. The pilot reported clear skies with only slight haze. Several small fires were detected and one larger, smoke producing, fire was intercepted.
